To Eat or Not Eat Greens!

Updated: Aug 13, 2020

Do you have a hard time getting your kids to eat greens or veggies? We struggle with food so much in our house. But, I have found a few ways to entice my kids that hopefully can help yours too! When it is so hot outside, the last thing any of us want to eat is hot food. So, make your own salad is a summer favorite. I know what you are thinking, " your kids eat that," well - not all the time. But I give it a try anyway. Fist things first is changing up the plate or bowl that they are going to eat out of. I love these nesting bowls. This way, you can portion out individual ingredients, give them a bowl and let them build their salad exactly how they want it. Sometimes I find that my kids only want one item and other times that same kid will take all. That leads me to picking out the ingredients. I try and place one ingredient per bowl as much as possible. I always offer a few items that I think they will take: croutons, dried fruit or cheese. Next, I add some things that I would like for them to eat: carrots, cucumbers, broccoli. Protein options include: hard boiled eggs, grilled chicken and left over cold salmon. A few healthy fats: olives, avocado and a variety of salad dressings. Both Primal Kitchen and Tessemaes have become our favorites. The last step is to give everyone a bowl and let them make their own. Don't be discouraged if they don't go for it the first time, give it a few chances - my kids now ask for salad night!
